Good food doesn't have to be difficult…
Bury St Edmunds literally the burial place of St Edmund is home to the Greene King Brewery. A few weeks ago I went on a tour (there were free samples! What’s not to like?). On a sunny Sunday morning we arrived in anticipation of our tour and were greeted by our guide, once everyone was present we were taken to the factory next door.
We were taken through the different processes of how the beer/beers are made and right to the top of the factory. From which is a fantastic view of Bury itself, made better by the fact it was sunny. We were shown the depot from which all Greene King beer is dispatched, and then taken back down through the factory.
We were given the opportunity to try the different hops which give the different Greene King beers their distinct flavours. We were then taken across the street to the site of the original brewery and shown a huge vat holding 250,000 pints (that’s nearly enough for a good party).
Finally we were taken to the tasting room where we could try the different beers that Greene King produce! It’s the best glass of IPA I have ever had (to be fair it should be). The tour is one of the best I’ve been on; our guide was super knowledgeable and answered all of the questions we had, especially when it came to the small batch distillers.
If you happen to be anywhere near Bury St Edmunds and are looking for something to do, I would highly recommend that you take a trip to the brewery, it really is a fantastic tour, I would definitely do it again!
